Barren Cross - Believe EP (1985)

Barren Cross is a Christian metal band that was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1983 by high school pals Ray Parris (guitar) and Steve Whitaker (drums). The band released six albums from 1986 to 1994

Musically, the band is often compared to Iron Maiden, mainly due to the similarity of the vocals between Mike Lee and Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson. Lyrically, the band is noted for its uncompromising stance on a number of social issues. Their songs addressed personal and societal ills such as suicide, abortion, terrorism, and prejudice from a Christian worldview

New American Shame were formed in 1998 in Seattle, Washington by guitarist Jimmy Paulson, formerly of The Lemons, and vocalist Johnny Reidt, who is often credited as the one-named Johnny. The group's lineup was rounded up by bassist Kelly Wheeler, drummer Jack Stringham, and second guitarist Terry Bratsch. The groups sound was reminiscent of '70's hard rock than the grungier sound associated with Seattle, drawing influences from the likes of AC/DC and Aerosmith.

The Gits were an American punk rock band, formed in Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1986. Known for their part in the burgeoning Seattle music scene of the early 1990s, their distinct punk rock sound gained a reputation for its bluesy street punk aesthetic. They were known for their fiery live performances and retained a dedicated following both during and after their existence.

Singer Mia Zapata—influenced early on by blues, soul music and hardcore punk, sang of inner struggle, alcohol, death, and survival despite utter hopelessness. Other members included guitarist Joe Spleen (born Andy Kessler), bassist Matt Dresdner and drummer Steve Moriarty. During their existence, the band released two studio albums, one compilation of early recordings, one live recording, three 7" singles and appeared on various compilations. The band also recorded on a few independent labels, and released its two studio albums on C/Z Records. In 2003, each release in the band's discography was remastered and expanded with bonus tracks on Broken Rekids.

The band dissolved in 1993 following the murder of Zapata. Though the band never signed with a major label and never reached a mainstream audience, Zapata has nevertheless been cited as an influence by several subsequent female punk vocalists.

Seafish Louisville is a compilation of songs released posthumously in 2000 on the Broken Rekids label. The record is primarily a collection of live tracks and alternate takes including the newly discovered track "Whirlwind."

Evil Stig was formed by Joan Jett and the Gits (bassist Matt Dresdner, drummer Steve Moriarty, guitarist Joe Spleen) after that band's lead singer, Mia Zapata, was raped and murdered in Seattle. The band united for a benefit concert to raise money for a continuing investigation into the killing, and recorded an album. "Whirlwhind" has Jett singing a duet with Zapata's pre-recorded voice.

Candy were a band featuring original members Kyle Vincent, Jonathan Daniel, John Schubert, and guitarist Geoff "Rexx" Siegel. Gilby Clarke replaced Siegel after 6 months. They had an album release in 1985 titled Whatever Happened To Fun. Later that year, Gilby Clarke replaced Kyle Vincent as lead vocalist, and guitarist Roxie joined the lineup. After Gilby parted to form his own band Kill for Thrills the rest of the guys joined up with new lead vocalist Shane and became the Electric Angels.

Ryan Roxie joins up with Shane, Jonathan Daniel and drummer John Schubert to form the band Electric Angels. They moved to New York where they signed to Atlantic Records. The show they are signed at is opening for the Dogs D’amour and Mother Love Bone (some of whose members went on to form Pearl Jam) and their self titled album is released in 1990 produced by Tony Visconti (best known for his work with T Rex, Bowie and Thin Lizzy to name a few). The band works on a second album to be called New York Times but is dropped by Atlantic before it is released.

In 1997 Ryan Roxie, formally of the band 'Candy' and "Electric Angels', joined up with long time friends, drummer Mike Fasano and bassist Stefan Adika as well as bassist Will Effertz and created the band Dad's Porno Mag. Guitarist Keri Kelli was later added. The album was released on Wax-Tone Records. This item is now out of stock but was re-released in 2000 from Robinson Records. Produced by Jim Mitchell of Ugly Kid Joe fame and Mark Schulman (Simple Minds) with additional production by Alex Woltman and friend Gilby Clarke. The album has fourteen tracks and one special hidden track entitled "My Bad Knee" on track 77.

R77 formed in 2002 and wrote a bunch of songs whose influences lie somewhere in between The Beatles and The Beastie Boys. They played the usual suspect clubs around the L.A. area for the next year, then failed to do what 98% of Los Angeles bands do - they didn’t break up. Instead, they succeeded in recording their debut CD and gaining their fans the old-fashioned way, they earned them.

Roxie 77’s 11 song debut CD is entitled Peace, Love & Armageddon and is released under the small indie Wax-Tone Records label. The spectrum of music and song subject matter span from acting like a punk-ass kid to facing the reality of actually having a kid.

U.S. Crush was a California punk band, formed in 1997 after frontman Denny Lake's former project Atomic Boy split up. The band also featured Hodgie Haynes, Dave Hanson (both on guitar), Ky Lambert (bass) and Dennis Wolfe (drums).

The Hollywood Reporter described them as "a more catchy and melodic brand of punk, blending neo-Sex Pistols riffs with touches of power pop, British Invasion and good old rock 'n' roll".

The Dropoutz (A.K.A. The Beauty School Dropoutz) was formed in 1995 by T Smash and Mikki in New York City ..... Both Mikki and Smash were in Local NYC Bands and decided that they would make a better band as a team ... so then they sought the help from NJ guitarist Ray Ray and Bassist Rachelle to make the Dropoutz .... but due to music deferences Rachelle was let go from the band and Billie Kaos joined .... Then the dropoutz took a break from the music world for 3 years and now are back as a trio .... Mikki ( Guitar and Vocals), T.Smash ( Drums and BU Vocals ) and Bille Kaos ( Bass )

They got thier name from the movie GREASE ... "we were named the Beauty School Dropoutz at first then decided to just become the Dropoutz" ~ Mikki Twist

Unleashed! is the one and only release from this Sunset Strip glam quintet. Songs such as "Pleazure 'N' Pain", "Roll The Dice" and "High Tonite" are good rockers. There is a cool ballad called "Forever" and a nice acoustical number in "Cowboy Ride".
The Wild Boyz definitely had the look to fit into the late 80's glam scene. The band reminds me of a cross between Poison and Pretty Boy Floyd. If there is one complaint about Unleashed!, it is that it contains some of the silliest lyrics ever written, such as this ditty from "Take Me"; "Time she cumz around gonna rock n'roll, a lil' bump an' grind b4 the show, sugar'z got that candy coated luvin' yeah, hold on tight she'z a hurricane cumin!" Despite needing a subscription to Hooked On Phonics, the Wild Boyz managed to release an entertaining album, and I give this lost sleaze classic two thumbs up!
